Founded in 1980 by A. S. Hind, J. M. Brennan, J. E. Robiinson, S. Robinson, C. Latcham & N. Pile, King James currently hosts two teams a 1st XI and a Social XI, but have in the past hosted 5 teams; a 1st XI, a 2nd XI, a Social XI and two junior sides (U-13's & U-15's).
Beginning life at King James I Community Arts College on an artificial pitch, in 1993 the club moved to it's own full grass pitch at West Mills, home of Bishop Auckland Rugby Club.
